5-23 Venice Beach Resort - The Worst Resort in Ghana

As we look around our accommodations with disbelief I ask Michael - how much are we paying for this.  He answers - $170 USD.  I can only burst out laughing it is so ridicules.  It reminded me of the cheap motels Alexis and I stayed in in 1993 when we moved to Albuquerque - everything about them was seedy and slightly scary.  I feel the same way now.

Michael gets out the plastic bottle we have filled with after-dinner drink.  That is the only way we are getting through this night.

This is the main space.  You can just squeeze through the two sofas.  That is the remains of our rice and chicken on the coffee table.  Note the lovely stain on the wall next to the tv.  The windows only open to open air.  If you want to keep the air con in - you can't open them.  The picture of the two horses has a big smash in the lower right corner.

The bathroom.  The faucet in  the sink is loose and hard to get the water turned on.  It is only cold water.

A lamp that cannot be plugged in.

All the switches, dials and outlets have gaps all around them.  Everything is filthy.

The top mattress has an 8-10 gap between it and the supporting box below.  When you sit on the edge of the bed you fall off.

There is a ten inch high divider between the bed area and the bathroom.  The door cannot be closed and just swings open on its hinges.  Note the stains along the floor/wall.

The shower water system

No body wash in the dispenser.  We did not use the shower - I would rather be sticky and sweaty.

The white bedspread has huge stains on it.  There is no top sheet.  The bed sheet and cover look dirty.  The bed itself was good-sized - and way too high.  I had to take a running jump to get on it.

It really is too bad - as the views are stunning.  It looked like they tried to keep up the outside area closest to the cabins.

But other areas just look a mess.

We decide we are going to leave.  We ask to speak to the manager after the hell tried to defend the conditions of the room.  A man show up.  I ask who he is "I'm the acting manager - for now," he answers.  We are all packed up - our driver comes.  He says he is not surprised at our reaction at all.  He has another option for us.  This is one he takes people to all the time.

Suddenly our breakfast (included in the price) appears.  It is carried by a young man who appears to be the chef.  He proudly points to each dish.  These are the omelets,  here is a vegetable dish I made.  It has carrots and beans and (I can't remember the rest).  You like vegetables don't you, he insists.  He is soft spoken and kind in his mannerisms.  I feel like we need to at least taste it.  So we stop packing the car and eat.  The eggs are good, the bread is weird, but perfectly fine.  Michael liked the vegetable dish.
I felt sorry for the chef - he had probably dreamed of being a chef at a resort.

But who in their right mind would pay $170 a night for this place?  If you looked at their website everything looks pristine.  We will try to get a refund.
