Sept 29 PM Walk

Tonight Michael has meetings until quite late - so I went out by myself.  Sunset was to be at 6:52 so I headed out at 6:15PM.  It was a beautiful night, a light wind, not too many clouds, temperatures perfect for shorts and a t-shirt.

Since I walk very slow, I decided to go to the furthest, highest outlook point first and then make my way back downhill.  It was very crowded with people - lots of restaurants are open along the streets I walk up.

I passed one of the look out points on the beach.  This one has steps to the beach.  People were camped out watching the sunset.

A view towards town.  Notice there is a gap between the last couple of buildings.  This is the entry way to walk onto the little peninsula.  There is a restaurant with outside seating in the middle.  I will be walking to a further lookout to start with.

I love these clouds!

If you take this street up - you get to the newer part of town and you are going away from the water.

There are several of these tourist maps around the city - of course with advertisements for local amenities.

I got to the outlook behind the church just in time.

A view back to the lighthouse.

There is a walkway down to the rocks on the left side of the photo.

Shops are open for business.  I see tourists wearing clothing that is on offer here and other shops.  It is all very colorful and vibrant clothing.

Now I am back near the peninsula and below are chairs and umbrellas for one of the hotels nearby.

Restaurants on the left and right above.

I have not walked down this section as it is a little steep and is gated shut for the night and early morning.

Back to the beach and heading back to my street.  The moon is a sliver in the sky.

This hotel is on the corner of my street.

Back in my apartment building I wanted to document the infamous step.  The doorway and step look really innocuous - don't they?

It is only about 4" high.  But it was dark here the night I fell.

The moon and view from our balcony.

Sept 29 AM Walk

This morning the light is very harsh.  But I wanted to show a little of the landscape along the boardwalk heading away from town.

Along the walk is this exercise station.  I frequently see people working out in the morning - but maybe I am too early this morning.

As we are along the sea and it is frequently windy here, you see many trees like this.

The beach is mostly sand along this walk.  But there are spots where the rocks take over and you can not walk continuously from one end of the beach to the other.  Some areas have more sand - this is where the hotels have - I imagine purchased rights for their guests to use this section.  The hotels offer umbrellas and lounge chairs for their guests.  They also have a restaurant/snack shack where you can buy food and drinks.  A few are also nightclubs.  You can still walk along these sections of sand.  This hotel has a higher section of land that is mostly grass.

Here is another hotel's section.  I was not paying attention to which hotel this was.  But there is a Peter Pan hotel, Sea Palace Hotel, Victoria Palace Hotel, etc.

I walked as far as the Tourist Hotel's piece of beach - yes the hotel is called Tourist Hotel.  This beach is not just for any tourist!

Along the way there are outlets jutting off the boardwalk where you can get better views.  Sometimes there are steps down to the beach.  This one did not have steps.  But the waves came right up to the walls and were high enough to cause large splashes - I could feel the drops.

This is the infamous tree that I hit my head on.  It is quite a hefty tree - so glad I did not get a concussion!

Sept 28 AM Walk

The foot saga continues.  It is still swollen and sore.  So I searched the internet again and read beyond the surface - originally I was hoping that it was a light sprain and would be healed in 2-4 weeks.  In that case it should not still be so swollen.  But alas, if the soft tissue injury is severe it can take from 3-6 months or longer to heal.  And it will still swell up, especially towards evening.  So do I try to stay off of it in the hopes that it will heal quicker - or just give up and walk as much as I can and take ibuprofen for pain.  After two days of rest- it is still swollen and hurts.  So I am giving up and just doing as much as I can.

So this morning I went on a walk along the board walk.  The waves are still crazy.  I wanted to walk on the beach as it has been wiped clean of footprints - so I went down some steps to the beach and took photos.

I was going to try to walk back along the beach to the steps at the other end - near where you enter the old city.  But the waves were too high.  And about 25' from this spot, the waves were way up to the buildings and smashing into them.  So I had to turn around and go back the way I came.

There were 3-4 guys out surfing - didn't really seem them on their feet on their boards as the waves are not that high.  Then this women came along ready to try her luck.
