5-17 Asomdwee Park

Today we are touring around Accra.  Our first stop was at Asomdwee Park.  As we approached the location - there was no one around.  We didn't know exactly how to enter it.  When we entered the park I was confused.  There wasn't much to be seen.  On the left was this green building with one person in it.  On the right was a chain fence with ostriches penned inside.  Ostriches are not native to Ghan,. but apparently Ghanaians love ostriches as they have them in many locations in Ghana.  The one ostrich who came close to the fence kept cleaning themselves which made for really bad photos.  Who wants a photo of a headless ostrich?

Our guide talking to the one person in  charge.  We walked through an area that was in progress.  The area is pretty large, but nothing has been finished.

Finally we made it to the area that is finished.  It is intended that important dignitaries be buried here.  So far one person has been buried here - John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.  He was the president of Ghana from 2009 to 2012 when he died.  No one else seems to want to be buried here - but I think that was the intent of this park.

  1. fascinating. People romanticize often the undiscovered, authentic experience off the tourist beaten path. Sounds like sometimes it's not so amazing..
