Karak Castle

Still on Sunday, our final stop was Karak Castle.  On the way I took photos of sights through the car window.

We had to actually stop to wait for this shepherd and flock to cross the highway before continuing on.

When we reached the site, it was not sign-marked at all.  You wander around trying to find entries and exits.  We had missed the major sights until we ran into a local guide dressed in Bedouin costume.  He seemed like just a helpful person at first, but we quickly realized that he was a guide and would expect payment.  But he did show us where the dining room, kitchen, sleep chambers and horse stables were.  And deep in that underground maze, we would taken forever to find out way out.  So we were happy to pay him to get us back the exit.  Most of the views are the scenery around the castle.

A children's amusement park we had passed on our way up to the castle.

The tunnels inside.

I had noticed this sign on our way in - wouldn't it be wonderful if it were so easy

A final photo taken by Michael.

  1. people have been visiting these sites for hundreds of years and it must have worked as such before tourism became an organized industry
