9-27 Lido di Ostia - We make it to the beach!

First a few photos from last night.  Since the parking garage has proved to be too stressful we are parking our car in the park across the street.

Photos taken from our side balcony.  Our car is parked way on the left in the inside row of angled parking.

The lovely blue Skota about 6th from the left.  It has served us well.  In spite of it being larger than we wanted it has proved to have great maneuverability.  Of-course we did not test it on super tiny streets in mountain towns!

The park is a canopy of trees.  We can still see buildings at the edges - but it is quite nice to have.

With the canopy of trees - my "sunset" photos come much earlier.  The whole time we were on the Adriatic side we were always facing the wrong way for sunset photos.  So I will give it a go here.

Now on to Friday:  We thought about walking from our apartment to the beach.  Michael thought it would take about 25 minutes.  I suggested we take a taxi to the beach and see how much energy we expended on walking around and then decide if we would walk back.  Would a beach on the Mediterranean be a lot different the beaches on the Adriatic - Or is the setup just the way the Italians like it?

Guess what - it is the same.  The only thing different is there were no railroad tracks that we could see.

The only way you could actually see the water was by walking out on this dock

A view back to the town and touristy area.

The beach to the right.

The beach to the left.

A shot of Neptune!

Way off in the distance I can see the kite sailors.  It is too far to walk.  We will most likely see them in El Campello and at a much closer distance.

These buildings face the sea.  I would think you would get a sea view from the higher floors.  The bottom level was store fronts.  We did walk along the sea - on the other side of the road from these buildings.  I neglected to take a photo - just to show that all you could see were buildings and more buildings - a lot of individual changing units - completely blocking the sea.  That was the view for as far as we could see.  It seems the only way you can actually see the sea is to pay for a spot with an umbrella and a chair!

We found a gelato shop.  Not near as good as the gelato we got along the Adriatic.  The mango was definitely artificially flavored!  For you Alexis - licorice flavored gelato!  There was also a Kung Fu flavor - did not try that either.

So we turned around and walked into the town.  About a block in was a shopping/ restaurant area.  Only several blocks long.

This was a bakery.  I'm not sure at all why there are two gorillas out front.  Inside the decor was all glass and mirrors.

Lots of ice cream/yogurt places.

We sat on a bench for quite some time.  Reminiscing about past travels.  More and more people were in the area - it is lunch time.  We are still so full from yesterday that nothing looks good.  We pass a place called WienerHaus.  They have strudel - but we can only find one dish with sausages on it!

We end up at a kabab place - ok, but not as good as the last time.  Then time to call an IT Taxi and head home.  We find we are still exhausted from yesterday and the Ostia Antica.
