10-9 Altea

Wednesday we visited another seaside town with an old town higher in the mountains.  This one really resonated with me.  I think it reminded me of Cefalu, Sicily, Italy.  As usual we had plugged into our GPS the address for a parking lot.  It was quite close to the old town.  Only problem is that it was way downhill from the old town.  The walkway up looked pretty steep.  I climbed up first - Michael is still at the beginning in shadow.

There are still so many beautiful flowers blooming here.

A view down to the harbor - it is a long ways away.

Climbing further up we walk past apartments.

And community fountains.

A view through an alleyway.  You can't avoid the telephone/electric wires.

An extremely narrow staircase up.

We make it up to cathedral square.

The view down to the sea.

Now we see another way to get up to the old town.  There are more steps here than the way we came.

And then back to cathedral square.

And into the church.

Being in old town means the only way out is to go down.  Lots of tourist shops and restaurants.

I took this photo as Michael was looking for a magnet.  I think the sign said to give a donation for taking a photo - but maybe I am wrong!

From the side streets you can see more mountains off in the distance.

A view point to see down to the sea.

And then fortunately, there was a walkway from the backside of the old town to exactly where we had entered the old town.

We walked back to our car and then drove down to the marina.  It was a beautiful day.

By this time we were very hungry.  We saw the sign below for the Club Nautico of Altea.  We expected it to be very expensive.  But looking at the menu - it was not any more expensive then any of the other restaurants around.

We decided to share a lobster paella.  This is not an area that catches lobsters - but it was still pretty good.  We got the "creamy" style.  It is not really creamy - just has more moisture.  The show was in the presentation!
