October 25 - Valley of the Temples

They are predicting lots of rain today.  I think the schedule reads something like 60% chance of rain at 10am.  11am to 12noon 75%, etc all day.  But we should have from 8:30 to 10am and they have been very wrong with weather predictions here - so we took the chance.  And had a great day.

The Valley of the Temples is a sight worth seeing if you are ever in Sicily.  It is one of the most well preserved sites that includes so many temples from many different time periods.  As you can guess, the older the ruins are the less complete they are.

                                                                The temple of Juno

                                                                    View to the sea

View towards the temple of Concordia

There was a lot of strange art interspersed among the ruins.  I guess to keep you from being bored as you walked.  We walked from one end to the other and then back again.  I'm guessing about 5 miles total.

Parts of the old wall along the wall.  This area was supposed to have tombs in it.

Not sure if these are part of the strange art collection or copies of real statues.

                                                                  Temple of Concordia

View of the city of Agrigento

The door to the garden.  It has been restored.

A lot of the plants look like they would fit right into the eco system in New Mexico!

This is a bust of Alexander Hardcastle.  He was the driving forced for putting together the Parco Vlle Dei Temple complex.  Before they were all separate areas you could visit.  And not all of them were being preserved.

                                                                   Temple of Hercules

This seemed to be part of the Temple of Zeus.  From here on I was not being as careful to find out what things were.  The skies were getting darker and a colder wind blew.  We decided to head back to our car.

This one seems to be undergoing renovation.

We were back at the Temple of Juno when a couple asked us to take their photo in front of this fallen statue.  They reciprocated by taking our photo.

We stopped for a quick pickup beverage at the small cafe near this temple.  No rain yet - just dark clouds, so we are vary tired and happy.
