April 29 Pylos

Today was a day trip away from Kalamata.  We had rented a huge bus for all of us - and now we are half the number.  On the plus side, we all had a row + each on the bus.  Tomorrow we should have a smaller van.  We are going to Pylos Castle and the town of Pylos.

Or focus was at the castle of Pylos.

Greek writing on the wall.  Recent or ancient?

They had some exhibits of pottery they have recovered from underwater.  Different styles - different times.

Some exhibits of statuary they have recovered.  These are most likely copies.

Lia and I had a deep discussion about this church.  She is old enough to question things.  Still some confusion between childhood magic/movies, religion and science.

Then a walk around Pylos itself.  There were a lot of people enjoying a coffee or meal in the main square.  We headed off on a side street for quiet and photos.  But first ice cream for the girls.

The side street - which was a dead end - so not even much traffic.

We saw a couple of houses with grapevines like these.  This is two vines in the ground.  One on the far left and one close to the right side by the lamp pole.

We walked back to the meeting place for our bus - I went to the end of the dock to photo boars.

Then we drove to a nearby village for a late lunch.  Still on the water and very beautiful.

After satiating our self's we headed home.  A view from the bus - snow on the mountains off in the distance.

  1. that was a great day - perfect weather and felt like we snuck into the Greek post-Easter tradition of eating out.
