10/22 Cartagena Part 2

Now that we have done the harbor tour and learned about the Spanish Navy it is time to see it from the land side.  So we head that way - but see much in between.

As we wandered the old town area we came upon many murals depicting what the the city might have looked like during Roman times.  There is an actual garden in the small square here.

Actual Roman ruins.  You can see some of the reconstructed areas but then there are fences to keep you from seeing the rest - you need to take the archeological tour!  This is the entrance to the Iglesia de Santa Maria la Vieja.

The local garden cat.  Note the water container behind the post.  There was food also.

They have either kept facades or build new facades around the archeological site.  You can't actually see in.

A glance back.

On a side street I noticed this balcony reflection on the wall of the next building.

A side view of the facade with a support scaffolding behind it.

Now on to the Arsenal which dates from 1749

Across the street from the Arsenal is this square with these huge structures.  We wondered if they were supposed to supply shade or what there purpose was.

Looking back to the arsenal wall from a side street.  Another statue.

Then we moved on to this area where there were several ponds.

Palm reflections.

We have seen these booths in many cities.  They are book seller booths.  Now closed.

Flocks of birds.

As we explored more side streets we found more murals and closed areas - part of the archeological site.

Then we walked down to this square.  These ladies seemed to be having a meeting.  There were also children at play.  We found a bar and sat down to rest, have a drink and wait for the evening light.
