We have been planning a photo experience with Mark Tomaras for months, never quite sure if it would come to fruition. Miscommunication via email - then his kids got sick - then Mark got sick. But today - Friday the thirteenth - it is going to happen.
We spent the first couple of hours in Mark's studio in Porto going over technical stuff about using your camera and other technical stuff. After our minds were entirely overwhelmed with information - we walked to one of his favorite restaurants - Casa de Pasto Moinho de Vento for a long leisurely lunch. It was good to have a long break and we were also waiting for the light to be right for our photo shoot.
When Mark determined the light was perfect we headed out to the streets. I can't tell you where we went - just know we walked on a lot of streets. I took way too many photos - but that is what I was supposed to be doing so it's all right. Michael was a quite overwhelmed by the experience - I have way more experience and have taken a lot more classes. Our experience levels are so different - next time we need to focus on his needs more.
We stopped at a wine bar where Mark knew the owner. Mark and Michael are having their second glass of wine of the day - I am not having any. If I do I will want to go home and nap! Then we headed to an area called Foz where the river Douro meets the Atlantic. Again we walked through a park and then through some back streets. The night light was not that good - too cloudy. But we did go down on the beach to take some photos of the rocks, shells, sunset.
We were exhausted by then - and so sent Mark home as he lived nearby, and we caught an uber back to our apartment.
I'm glad the class timing finally worked out!
