May 14 Saturday - Post Photo Shoot Technical Class

Today is Saturday - we are both pretty wiped out.  We are woken up early by loud thunder. The day starts out grey - perfect whether to be inside taking a class.  Mark texts that he is really tired, so could we get together at his studio at 11:15?  By the time we grab an uber and head out the door it is starting to clear up.

As Mark starts our session he first does an overview of the software he uses - Capture One - which seems to work much like Lightroom - but per Mark is way easier and more precise.  After checking out the price - it is almost 3x as expensive as Lightroom.  I may try a trial - it will really have to be much better for me to make the switch.  Mark shows us his work flow and shows some of his photos - how they came out of the camera and how they looked after he worked on them.

Then we switched to Lightroom.  I loaded 320 photos I took on Friday onto my computer and into lightroom.  We choose abut 15 photos to work on.

Lesson 1 - start using the rating system to pick out the really good photos.  Only delete the really bad ones.

Lesson 2 - Use the Transform section to straighten up buildings/doors/etc.

Lesson 3 - Use the adjustment brush to select portions of the photo you want to work on separately from the rest - like using masks, but easier.

We work on some of my photos.  Then Mark wants to load Michael's photo - but Michael has had enough and says no.  So we head home.  Sometime soon I will post my photos.

  1. That's really great that you were able to take a class on working on the photos.
