May 8 Mothers Day in Vagos Beach

So it turns out our little beach area is named something like Vagos Beach.  The actual town of Vagos is about 15 minutes away.  Here we have many restaurants (not highly rated), snack and coffee bars and beach clothing shops.

One thing they do have going for the town is a wonderful walkway stretching from one end of the town to the other and also heading into the dunes.  It is not really a board walk as it is made of cement, but it will probably last longer than a boardwalk would.  There is a long stretch of beach and lots of tourists - but not nearly as many as will be coming in the next month or so.

First a sunset photo from last night.  This was taken from our apartment balcony.

Then this morning we took a walk along the board walk and took some photos.  Not the best time of the day, but we enjoyed it.

Just to get a feel of the touristy region it is.

This is on the outskirts of the square.  It  sells snacks.

They were roasting some meat - when we went around the  corner we saw where they were selling the sandwiches made from the meat.

There was a small fish market building.  We decided to wait because it is mother's day and I wanted a restaurant meal.

Buying some bread.

There are nice areas - and then areas that have fallen into disrepair.

We went back to our apartment and I did not emerge until almost 7pm.  We are actually going to do a sunset photo shoot!  By this time we have decided that it is too late to go into Vagos and eat a long leisurely meal.  So Michael decides to cook.  He runs back to the market to get some fish.  When he gets back he realizes he has purchased eel!  I hate eel.  So back he goes to the market (it is only a couple of blocks) and manages to score some sole as he knows I love sole.  We had a lovely Mother's Day meal.  Michael napped and finally around 7pm we headed for the boardwalk.

Still very light at 7pm.

A shot back to the are where our apartment is.

Once you get beyond the main beach - tourist area - the walkway turns into a real boardwalk.

Beyond the beach there are the dunes.  There are many signs saying - don't walk on the dunes - but of course people do walk all over the dunes.

At points on the board walk - the dunes have over taken the boardwalk.

As we were waiting for the sun to set, suddenly there was  an ultralight flying over us.  There was a perfect shot between the steps down onto the beach - except at exactly that moment people walked right into the shot - so I ended up with this distance shot.

And finally around 9:30 we finally get close to sunset.

Winds on the beach and shadows.

Patterns in the sand - and animal tracks.

And the sun goes down.
