We have moved on to Cefalu'. As we had to leave our rental in Carini early and could not check into our rental here until 2pm we had time to kill. We did need to get some groceries. There are several different bands of supermarkets in Sicily, but we have been mostly going to Deco. The one close to our rental is a Gourmet Deco! We somehow missed a whole section of prepared foods and ended up getting pastry filled with meat - mine was ham and cheese and Michael had one with sausage and carnalized onions. Both were pretty good.
But we were trying to figure out the timing. If you got your food with your other groceries and it took a long time to check out (which it did), the food would be cold by the time you got your groceries into the car and then went back to the tables. You also had to pay for parking or if you paid a certain amount for groceries the parking was free. This is a city where parking spot are a hot commodity. We ended up buying just the groceries and taking them to the car. Then going back in for the sandwiches and soda and eating them on tables just in front of the store. However you had to have a code on your receipt to get out of the store. We went through the self checkout where the receipt machine ate our receipt. We had to call a manager to get our receipt to get out of the store. Also all the liquor was locked up in this store as well. Again, we had to find someone to help.
Finally it was time to go to the rental. Michael texted them we were coming and were only 7 minutes away. As we got close, I suddenly noticed a guy on a motorcycle rapping at my car window I'm thinking, I don't know this guy, what is going on. It turned out he was our contact and wanted us to follow him. - which we did. We would never have found it by ourselves. Our road into the parking lot is just off the road along the seacoast. There were three ways to go two leading down and one leading slightly up. Ours was up. It was very arrow and had a 1 1/2 foot drop on the right. If you went too far right your car would fall off and you might end up in the restaurant window two feet away. Michael kept moving to the right - He had not noticed the problem. I totally freaked out and kept telling him to go more to the left - but he was afraid of hitting the barrier on the left.
We finally made it up the small incline into the parking area. Our assigned spot is a parallel parking spot in between two cars. There is maybe a foot or two in front and less in back. I am so glad I don't have to drive here. We are both thinking maybe the crazy ass tiny streets up hills are better! Michael gets the car into the spot but with the tail end sticking out. After we finish the check-in process and go back down to get the luggage, the lady who has the spot behind us - which is even more difficult to get into as there is a wall behind her - arrives and is not happy. Michael asks her to wait and he will adjust his parking job. She is very nice and obliges. Almost everything we need is here. The furniture is exquisite. The shower is very big and has two showerheads, one stationary and one European. We have a microwave, oven, gas stovetop, dishwasher, toaster, American coffee maker, hot water pot -we are in heaven!
The sunset was fantastic - but we were busy getting settled in and didn't notice before it was almost over. Maybe we will catch the sunset tomorrow.
All I want in an apartment is a French press, although I have never had that provided. However, I bought one last time I was n Spain, for my two week trip. This apartment sounds better than average!
ReplyDeletesounds like the apartment is really a big help in enjoying the trip
