November 3 - Cefalu"

Today we have nothing planned.  We started doing laundry yesterday - but the cycles of washing machines here in Europe take hours so it all takes much time.  We hung up our first load outside off the balcony.  I will take pictures to illustrate.  After a late breakfast we decided to wander around the streets around us.  We are pretty close to the old city, but also wanted to get the lay of the land near us.  There are a lot of bakeries and other stores near us.  We are about a block off the sea.  There are many restaurants along the seacoast.  Only 1 or 2 are rated over 4.5 by Google.

First we walked around the city streets near us - then walked down to the seaside.  It is very warm and people are in the ocean.  There is a Gelato store just across the road from us.  Michael wanted to try the artisanal granita before we had lunch.  I ordered one scoop of the chocolate gelato.  He ended up with 3 huge scoops of lemon granita.  The granita was so cold that it took much time to finish. After that we started up to the old city.  It was not near as steep as the way to the Doric Temple two days ago.

Starting our way into the old city.

If you blow this photo up you might be able to see what I was trying to capture without being obvious, There are two women talking to each other across the balconies of laundry.  Just a slice of life in Sicily.

A view through a city gate.

This couple seems to be looking right at me - though I didn't even notice them at the time.

They probably don't use this fountain now - but it used to be a place where people would get there water.

We kept seeing this map of Cefalu - with lots of advertisements around it.

It was a very windy day - and I think it was at this point that my Micky mouse cap blew off and ended up on the beach.  A very nice gentleman picked it up and I ran down some stairs to the beach to retrieve it from him.
