3-6 Medan Street Scenes from the Car

Friday, March 6 was a day of touring.  Lisa has taken off some time from work and so we are going to two different tourists sites today.  Both require driving around a large are in Medan.  So first I will give you some random scenes seen from the car as we are driving along.

There are a lot of motorcycles in Medan.  This was a traffic circle or maybe it was a triangle.  At any rate there is a statue in the middle.

Stores and shops abound.  Most are small and on the ground floor.  You might see a store for fruit and vegetables next to a place that repairs motorcycles, next to a place that sells plastic items  next to a place that sells sports clothing.  There are also very large malls that are similar to the ones in the U.S.

Mosques also abound.  There may be an entrance at the street and the mosque itself is further back.

A common mode of transportation - I believe it is called a Bajaj in Indonesia.

An Indonesian style fast food restaurant called Wiz Me.

Where to go for bananas.

A construction site with wood supply in front.

There are usually apartments above the stores.

Another mosque

The corner take out store.

Not sure what all the metal things are.  The items on the left look like chairs.

A typical gas station.  I was trying to get a shot of the line of cars waiting for gas, but missed it.  It seems Indonesia is having issues with the closing with the strait of Hermosa.

Some of the larger boulevards have gates like these.  The center median is often lined with palm trees.

Medan also has many very modern looking buildings.

Between sites we stopped for lunch.  Lisa got the above beverage.  It is a very sweet coffee drink with all kinds of additions including a jelly.

Next two posts will be on the sites we saw.
