Ipoh has an old town that is similar to George Town.
We first drove to the train station and took photos of what was around it. This is the Birch Memorial Clock Tower.
Across a large road was the Town Hall built in 1914.
The train station is a heritage building. The outside is quite interesting - but inside is boring, no high ceilings - just a very much still in use train station.
Another photo of the Town Hall.
We then drove to another area of town to explore there. We parked near this sign. Now I know where to find Plan b - Just have to figure out what Plan a is first!
We were heading for Concubine Lane. This is a tiny little street is one of several in the area where the rich Chinese tycoons kept their mistresses. Now it is all about stuff you can buy.
Wall art - a tycoon and his mistress.
These are mostly waffle with some stuff on top. Emmanuel was not impressed. They did look pretty.
There was a pot cooking in front of this shop keeper. It took a while to get her in position for a shot.
We have seen these before - this is the modern take on the items in the photo below. They are made out of gelatin and flavorings.
Fried baby soft shelled crabs.
There was a whole street of carpet sellers. I liked the buildings.
View of another parallel street.
Wall art in another area that sells fabric.
A small alley. Michael is dressed to fit into the color scheme.
Streamers hanging above the end of the street.
More wall art. There was a stool sitting in front of this one - so you could include yourself in the scene. As I was taking a photo these people started arranging themselves in the scene. When they saw me they quickly stepped out - but I told them to go back and complete the picture.
The skies have been dark grey all day and it is starting to sprinkle. We make one more attempt to find the magic mango drink I had in Melaka. This one said they could add pearls to the smoothie. Alas, it was not what I was looking for. The many "pearls" they added to my drink were large and pretty tasteless. We headed for the car as the drops got larger and started the 2 1/2 hour drive home.
I love the photo with the woman in profile behind a steaming pot!
ReplyDeletethe street art is so lovely. That is an epic drive however!!
