September 30 - The Closing of the Season

It is September 30 and things are changing on the beach front!  We noticed a big slow down of tourists after September 19 and school starting.  But this day seems to be the close of the season.  More and more of the hotels are shutting down their beach front operations.

This is a typical entrance to a Lido.  At least that is what a lot of them say they are.  But I tried to translate Lido from Italian to English and didn't get anything.  The gates to the stairs down to the beach are usually locked until mid-morning.  You can still get to the beach by using the public stairs.

This Lido is completely shut down and everything useful has been removed.  The orange barrier is what is typically used her to show that you shouldn't enter as it is dangerous.

I spent time on the beach watching the interesting patterns of the waves crossing each other.

This Lido used to have chairs and umbrellas all the way to the water.  They have cut way back - but still have a few for current guests.

While the rest are starting to be packed away.  The guy in the orange shirt is handing chairs to the guy above in the blue shirt.  They are then loaded onto the truck behind them.

Ready to be loaded and trucked away.

One of the public stairs down to the beach.

Patterns in the sand.  On windy the days come all the way up to the wall.  The sand pictures are "as is" - no photoshopping.

  1. Those are poignant photos. However, most people would be sad that summer was ending, and I know that you all are thrilled that the tourists are leaving.
