A day in Parma

We took the train to visit Parma which is about an hour north of Bologna.  We had time to visit two of their most famous sites.  First was the Battistero and Duomo.

Our first stop was the Duomo or cathedral.

These lions are holding down symbols - one presses down on a serpent representing evil and the other a lamb representing sacrifices.

Across the Piazza is the Battistero.

Our ticket included the church museum.

I believe these are the original lions that were in front of the Duomo.  Here for protection from the elements.

Lastly we toured the Palazzo della Pilotta Galleria Nazionale.  This included the Teatro Farence (one of the oldest wooden theatres and the National Archaeological Museum.  Not many pictures as they keep it very dark and you cannot use a flash.

Tomorrow will be a rest day until our photo tour in late afternoon.  Sunday we plan to go to Ravenna which will be a long day.
