3-23 The Town of Margaret River

The town of Margaret River is a cute tourist town.  Lots of gourmet an high end tourist shops.  It is also the largest town near our small enclave of Grace Town where we have a house.  So we have had to grocery shop here.  Today was just to enjoy the ambiance of the town.

We all love chocolate - so had to go to this store and purchase chocolate.

Reelections were a primary part of my photography today.  I was using the 17mm fixed lens which limited me, but also challenged me.

Outside the bookstore.

A misspelling of the Dumpling House!

Reflection!

Inside the candy store.

We had a snack at the Chicken Treat.

Last reflection of family.

3-22 Vasse Felix Winery

We left Cullen Winery and literally went across the road to the Vasse Felix Winery for lunch with paired wines.  We spent all of our time sitting at our table and enjoying our meal.

The menu with 4 wines that were matched.

Appetizer with raw fish - I didn't like it and was given the cracker thing below.

Very tender beef cut paired with beetroot and some kind of weird foam thing.  If you didn't know it before - I am not a foodie!

One of the red wines.

This was the palette cleansing course.

And desert.  We found the only way to get all the flavors and textures at once was to smash it all up an mix it up. It was actually quite good.

There was a wine tasting included with our meal - but we had all had enough and headed home.

3-22 Cullen Winery

Tim has been so excited to come to this part of Western Australia as Margaret River area is known for its wineries.  So he has picked out several to go to and had made reservations to go to the Cullen Winery for a full on taste testing.

Most of the grapes have been harvested.  But those remaining behind are covered with nets to protect them from the birds.

We had a full table to ourselves and a dedicated sommelier.  Though that might not be the correct word for what she does.

The wine tasting menu.

If you don't have a reservation, you taste at the bar.

The outdoor area was lovely.

If you look towards the left center of the photo you can see the display they had that explained their wine growing philosophy.

CullenWinery uses biodynamics to raise their grapes.  See for yourself.

They only pick the grapes on "fruit days" or "flower days".

Kumquat Tree.

I drink both three samples of the white and three samples of the red.  Actually there was a lot of spitting involved.  But we are next going to have a big lunch with paired wine next.
