Resort Life in Langkawi

I tend to take much fewer photos of family at these kind of places - because the kids are either in rapid motion or completely zonked out on their devices.  We usually walk into the shopping area near our resort at least once a day.  Usually to eat a meal.  Like all beach towns there are a lot of tourist shops and restaurants.  The prices are amazing by US standards.  We bought 3 floaties for the grand kids for under $10.  Mike has gotten some nice shirts for under $7 each.  There are sidewalk restaurants as well as full sized restaurants.

One concept I have not seen before is rolled ice cream.  It is intriguing to watch but it was more like ice milk and Nicholas wouldn't even touch it.  So he got a pre made cone.  N insisted I sit next to him and eat his rejected strawberry rolled ice cream.  If you look closely at Alex's cup you can see some of the rolled up ice cream in it.

We have picked out two favorite restaurants here and keep going back to them.  One is a Syrian restaurant and the other a seafood restaurant.  I only have pictures of the seafood restaurant.  Our party loves the crabs in many sauces - but I love the fresh fish more.

The resort we are staying at - Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort is very large.  There are several pools.  We stuck mostly to the ones closest to us.  This included the children's pool which N loved.  Water gushes out of the dragons mouth.  Our rooms were on the first floor - 3 in a row.

I walked along the beach one morning - Mostly the sand is smooth with some places with a lot of broken shells  which makes it difficult to walk barefoot.  Langkawi is very popular with the Muslim people of many countries.  As usual you see the women wearing anything from a simple headscarf to full coverage.  Some women wear a barkini - it is tight like a diving suit, but covers the entire body except the hands, feet and small amount of face.

The Malaysian Open 2017 volleyball tournament closed off half of our beach until the last few days we were here.  They were very careful to keep peekers out - until the end when they were handing out free tickets to the women's final.  The US women's team won and the Cubans for the men.  We were actually at a bar/restaurant right next to the tournament when the awards were handed out.  So we all stood and held our hands to our hearts.  I am sure those around us found us amusing.
Last, there are so many beautiful flowering trees and bushes here.
