4/6 A Final Foodie Post

I will try not to repeat myself with photos I have posted in the past.  But I did want to share some last thoughts on the food culture here as I know it.

We went to this indoor/outdoor restaurant twice for breakfast.  By that I mean that two walls were open to the air and a roof covered part of the restaurant.  We sat inside the day it rained.

Roti Telur.  Roti is a very thin flat bread.  This version has egg inside and is severed with three sauces, curry, dahl and sambal.  Excellent - but not quite enough for a meal.

So we got - Ayam Goreng - fried chicken.

Another meal at a restaurant called Danga mee tarik.

Michael got soup.  We shared this cold cucumber salad with both green and red peppers.  We did not eat the peppers.

My fresh watermelon juice.

Stir fried broccoli with peppers and sauce.

Chicken pot stickers - also very good.

My beef fried rice.

Altogether - and with Michaels coconut milk.

The all curry meal I shared before -

This is now my favorite Malaysian chicken dish.  Note the weird cut of the chicken.  We can not figure out why they do this.

It is very usual to have a two drawer unit on your table with spices on top.  One drawer will hold napkins and chopsticks

The other cutlery.  Malaysians use a large spoon and a fork.  They never give you a knife.

Bean sprouts served two ways.

I ordered a chicken drumstick thinking I would finally get around the weird pieces of chicken.  But no - they had chopped it into pieces - so it is easier to eat!  Problem is you often get tiny pieces of bone in your bite of food.  Note that egg is often served with your meal.  The above dish came with 2 slices cucumber, 1 boiled egg, about 30 peanuts and some anchovies as well as the rice cooked in coconut milk.

Our last meal at the airport the evening before we took off for ABQ.  Michael got this strange salad of fruits and vegetables with a crunchy cracker like thing in a sweet sauce.

I ordered the Chicken curry with rice as I had enjoyed it so much the first time.  It was just as good this time.  This time I had 5 slices of cucumber, a soft boiled egg on top of the rice and more strangely chopped chicken.  Yum!

We saw people ordering these custard tarts.  We could order them to go as we paid for our meal.  I believe Portugal started this fad and a lot of Asian countries who were influenced by Portugal still sell them.

The oven is to the left of the man holding the tray.

In case you are ever in the KL airport for a meal.  This restaurant is on the 5th floor way in the back.  I would totally recommend it.
