2025 10-15 Pinoso

On Tuesday we drove Rene Michelle to the train station and then returned home - a rest day for us -  except for the very long walk we took in the evening.  So Wednesday we were up for another adventure.  This time we headed for Pinoso, a town of about 7,500 people about an hour away from El Campello.  Michael as our driver is always thinking of things like a parking spot for the car - which he would be right to worry about as sometimes there are none available in smaller cities.  But this time we found plenty of spots about 2 blocks from the main square and the things we wanted to see.

The square where we parked our car.   I took this photo to show the pine trees that this town is named after.  This town is in a wine area and also almond trees.

They like their steps here!

The jagged shadow is made by the roof top of the buildings across the street.

Lots of wrought iron balconies - each house had a different pattern.

A lot of the homes had iron bars on the windows.  This one was different.

As we approached the main square we could see the "artistic mural" noted in the tourist information.

The church of St. Peter is very close.

And the clock tower - with more steps!

The main square with  a fountain in the middle of the round-about.

I'm not sure what kind of flowers these are - but they were beautiful.

Inside St. Peter's church

No steps here - just an inclined walkway for pedestrians.

I thought the town was quite cute.

The clock tower - we did end up walking up all these steps as we were headed to the Hermitage of St. Catherine - about 8 minutes away.  Actually took me longer than that - but my broken toes are healing nicely.

The streets of the town are lined with homes - like row houses in the US.

I couldn't tell if this was a garage or not as there is a curb in front.

We saw these shades over a lot of the windows and doors.  The one in the middle is the door of the home.  Sometimes there would be a pole pushing the screen away from the door - I assume to let in more air.

The roof of this building looks like it has dirt on it - like it is built into a hill.

And the Hermitage of St. Catherine.  It was closed.  But there were benches to sit and rest.

The hermitage is on a hill over looking farm land.  There are are grape vines and almond trees below - and also lots of electric wires.

There was a side building buit into the earth.  As near as I could figure out in translating the Spanish - it seems to be used  to set up a nativity scene during the season.

We headed down hill - our aim a restaurant that was on our way to our car.

There were a lot of cats wandering about.  Can you find the 4 cats in this photo?

Our restaurant - rated 4.5 - was very good.

Scallops in the shell.

My squashed chicken!

Michael's salted cod dish -both served with potatoes.

And behind me was this screen showing a cooking show.  But even better - it was live action of the chef cooking the food that would be served to the customers.

There specialty was Arroz dishes.  Many other customers ordered that.  Only one on the menu was seafood - like the one we got in El Campello several days ago.  They also offered up vegetables or many kinds of different meat Arroz dishes.

We have gotten our check at restaurants in little boxes like this several times.

A very interesting building we passed going back to our car.

On the road back home - I took photos of these very large round-abouts.

This one had trees and multi colored brick

Passing a vineyard

Almond trees.

The clouds were bellowing up and starting to darken.  We wondered if the fireworks would get rained out.
