June 7 - The Grandkids Arrive!

We arrived back in Madrid after our trip to Copenhagen on Tuesday, June 6.  Our plan was to stay at a hotel overnight and pick up the grandkids from the airport on Wednesday afternoon when they arrived from San Francisco.  Every thing went smoothly for us.  Arti was fine, but things did not go so smoothly for Yelena.  Something she ate disagreed with her and for the last five hours of the flight she mostly threw up.  She was still pretty miserable when they arrived in Madrid

It quickly became obvious that she could not handle a four hour car trip to get to Benedorm on Wednesday.  Michael found a vacation apartment that we could rent for the night.  It was only a few minutes away from the airport.  As soon as we got there Yelena took a shower and then went to sleep.  The rest of us searched for a restaurant for dinner.  We ended up at the hotel restaurant from the night before.  Our waiter from the night before recognized us and seemed very pleased to see us.

The next day, Thursday, after breakfast at 11am we finally got on the road.  Yelena was, thankfully, feeling a lot better.  The person who was to let us in the house rental couldn't be there until 2:30pm.  So we were not in a rush.  We stopped a couple of times for breaks, including a wonderful (note the sarcasm) lunch at a roadside stop.  The house looked as advertised.  It is up some very steep hills - but the roads are wide and not scary at all.  I will post those pictures later.

After we got all the luggage into the house and had checked out the kitchen in the house.  Basically there is only salt and sugar supplied in the house.  We got together our grocery list and headed off to the Carrefour - only minutes away.  We got a roast chicken plus other stuff and had dinner in our house.  Everyone was tired so it was a fairly early night.

So that it is it for this post.  We have successfully arrived with grandkids and have a wonderful house with pool.
