9-22 Bermeo and Mundake - our first adventure out and about

The weather is promised to be the same today as yesterday.  But we are going to take a chance that the weather will be different along the coast.  Michael has researched some picturesque locations to go to.  I don't know if Michael was aware that we were driving through the mountains to get there or not - I certainly wasn't aware.  It started out calmly enough, going from highway to exit to entrance to another highway - on and on.  Until we got to 637 - we were on that road for a while.  Then we started climbing steeply up the mountain.  This entailed lots of switchbacks.  I tried to capture the essence of the quick turns - but failed as most of the time my eyes were frozen on the road during those sharp turns.  The locals wanted to go faster than we did of-course, adding to the drama!

Now we are heading down towards Bermeo.

In the city.

We were wanting to get to the port which is across the water from this point.  We are now heading up the mountain to go to the next town.  We wandered around the port area but could find no parking anywhere close to the water. I can't walk that far with my still healing foot so we decided to move on.

We headed up from the water into the city streets above - trying to pick larger two way streets.  But of course they don't always stay that way - and suddenly we are on a one way single lane road.  This one is fairly wide for a city street.  But as we drove people seemed annoyed with us being on the road in a vehicle.  Everyone was walking in the street.  If you look ahead and see the green building - that is where the road really narrowed.

We ended up in this parking lot - after wandering through some tiny streets.  At least Michael could change the GPS to head towards Mundake.  I did take the photo below from this parking lot.

At least now that we had programmed the GPS we did not have to wander aimlessly trying to find our way out of the city.  We quickly got on the road and back into mountain road driving.

More phone pics taken through the car window.  Please ignore the window reflections.

                                                           More steep, windy roads.

On our way we stopped at a couple of view points.

This viewpoint's parking area was a ways from the view of the city.  And it was very windy.

Another viewpoint.

Notice surfer dude heading for the water.

This is another view point.

Sign back to Mundaka - that beach is known for surfing.

Coming back to our apartment in Bilbao was more difficult than leaving it.  Somehow we kept missing exits.  Michael was using Google maps - while I always use Apple maps.  Somehow here in Spain the Google voice directions were only given once and lots of places where roads forked, Google said nothing and we just had to guess.  Anyway we ended up going right through downtown Bilboa.  So many people and added stresses.

Seconds before this crosswalk was crowded with people.

This was a huge round-about.  Shortly after this point Michael recognized our street and we made it home!  Our host had guided us into our assigned parking spot when we arrived the first day.  This time we were on our own. Let me just say it was a challenge - but we got it done and good job I will add.  Michael wants a rest from driving tomorrow so we will most likely go into Bilbao by uber.

A good day today and my foot feels fine.  Yea!
