Hey we are in Sweden! I feel so fortunate. But because of the blood clot - a little bit worried. I don't think there will be any problems - and maybe a little bit worried about returning to Albuquerque at 5900' altitude on June 10.
I had researched the temperatures on average for Gothenburg for end of May - and hey they are lower and it seems it rains every day! Our flights were OK getting here - except in Chicago. We flew with United from ABQ to Chicago, but from then on on Lufthansa. It was an incredible mess getting on our flight to Munich. No one seemed to know what was going on -we got contrary information from Lufthansa people all the time. We changed lines 4 times - and finally I just marched us to the gate desk and demanded they look at our documents and check us through. I was so upset that the person at the desk let us through to the front of the line. The rest of the trip was fine.
It is raining in Sweden. But it seems to stop in late afternoon. The forecast for the next 10 days is more rain! We brought raingear. We arrived in the morning and our Uber took us to close to our Airbnb - but there was confusion about which building it was. It was quickly resolved. We were able to unpack some and the find the closest grocery store - Lidl. They do not have any prepared foods. So we ended up getting cheese, lunch meats and bread + fruits and veges for a French picnic for dinner.
I managed to stay awake until 9:15. Michael stayed up later - but he took multiple small naps before he went to bed. I woke up every hour or two, but managed to fall asleep again. Thursday morning I got up at 8 am and took another shower (I took one last night). At around 11am we left our apartment to see what we could explore around the area of our apartment. There are some ethnic restaurants near us and a mall. The alley on the way to mall has much cross winds - which is likely to whip your umbrella upside down. The mall is not that large - but it has another Lidle and a Hemkop which is a more upgrade grocery store. They have roast chicken and lots of other prepared foods. And a lot more choices in every department. Our apartment - like a lot of Airbnb's is very minimal. It does have a dishwasher and 3 dishwasher soaps but we are here for 22 day! There are only 6 plates and same amount of silverware. That is one day of dishes.
Tomorrow we want to take the tram to the tourist office and get more information. We have a lot of tourist sites we would like to visit - but need to locate what tram line they are on. Since it stays lighter here - much later - I am thinking we can get going later - but need to research the times all the sites are open. Days start much earlier and end much later - much to get used to!
welcome to Sweden! I would like to say even for Sweden, it is unseasonably cold right now. Sadly the rain is also very welcome because it has been one of the driest springs until now
ReplyDeleteI´m glad you´ve been able to find groceries and some prepared foods, and I agree that figuring out new transportation systems takes some effort
ReplyDeleteI would like to say Alexis, on behalf of the Gods of Good Fortune, you are welcome that we bring with us the rains of hope. But it still sucks for Mom and I.
