Strasbourg, France - Christmas Markets Day 1

After a long hiatus, we are traveling for family and pleasure again.  We left Albuquerque on Tuesday, Dec 17 around noon and arrived in Paris around noon on Dec 18 (Paris time).  Immediately jumped in a car and had a driver take us on a 5+ hour drive to Strasbourg, France.  We knew that Strasbourg inner city was closed to traffic from 11am to 8pm  because of the Christmas Markets, so we had to stop just outside and walk to our hotel with out luggage.  Our driver, Demitre insisted on helping us get it all to the hotel.  He left his vehicle on a side street with the emergency blinkers on.  I sure hope he had no problems when he got back to his car to make his way back to Paris.  This was way beyond what was expected of him.  We did give him a good tip!

We were hungry and exhausted after the trip, but wanted to get out to see a little and grab a bite to eat.  The manager of our hotel suggested a restaurant called La Fignette nearby which specialized in Tarte Flambee made over a wood fire.  This is a very thin pizza type dough covered with creme freshe and onions.  You can add mushrooms, bacon etc to it.  So we headed in that direction.  They did not have any seatings until 9pm - 2 hours away!

So we wandered around taking photos in the area and eventually found a restaurant that had immediate openings.  I think every restaurant in town offers a variation of Tarte Flambee, so we did end up ordering that and a very typical  Alsatian Choucroute to share.  Choucroute usually is served as 3 different types of sausages, ham and sauerkraut.  We could not even finish the two dishes.  Back at the hotel, we were in bed by 9:30
