June 4 - Village Life in Kairzali and a cooking class at the lodge.

I was thinking this was going to be a leisurely day.  But we went for a long walk in the country side to start the day.  They showed us all the fruit trees.  And kept wanting us to try to eat the fruit that was still so bitter or sour as it had a long way to go to ripen.  Sezgin, the owner of the Ephesus Lodge where we are staying and also the usual driver we have, inherited a dog when we bought the property 3 years ago.  He is a big fluffy white haired dog.  He went on the walk with us.  At one point we were to take a short cut through a vineyard - but it was guarded by two dogs who were not on leashes.  We had to turn around and go back to the village.  There was not too much to see in the village, except a lot of small tractors.

Local farmer doing his own thing.

Fruit trees in abundance.

A local fountain.  The tradition is that a wealthy person will build one to provide water for his poorer neighbors.
As you can see they do grow grapes here - mostly for eating.

Poppies grow in the wild.
Fruit trees grow in the vineyard.

They also grow cotton here and sometimes it grows along the roadside.

 The non-local stalker.
 Life in the village.

Watching Indian soap operas at the local coffee house.  Mostly men hang out here after they retire to visit and get the local gossip.
 We had coffee and soda.

 Pictures of the local mosque.
Random window in a house falling down.

The fountain in the mosque courtyard.

The mosque was closed so these are pictures taken through the window.  You can see Mike taking off his shoes and Sezgin in the distance.
More reflections - fountain in the background.  Our guide in front.

So many tractors in the village!

 Holy hocks grow well here.
Not sure what these flowers are - hard to capture as the wind is blowing.

Our view from a corner of the garden of the restaurant.
The local cat contemplating her chances of getting scraps from the table.
A local shop for lots of vegetables
Cooking class at the Ephesus lodge.  I bailed after about an hour - sciatica issues.  So many more pictures on Mike's blog.  http://de-intimidator.blogspot.com/

  1. I'm sorry your leg was a downer so much by the end of the trip. Hopefully you'll be on a course to help you feel better by the time we see you in Summer.
