May 2 - Olympia

We have finally reached the end of the Holidays in Greece.  We have finished with Easter and Easter Monday and 5/1 Memorial Day and things are open again.

Today we have our guide, driver and van to take us to Olympia.  We first stopped at a dam to take photos.  The girls are just as happy staying in the van with their i pads, Alexis gets out to see the view, and Rob, Mike and I take photos.

Then on to Olympia.

We rented these 3-D pads to see what Olympia might have looked like in its HayDay.

The girls especially liked this one - with the horse and rider.  They are both really into horses and dogs.

Lia imaging what it would have been like being an athlete running through this channel to the stadium.

Spectators - 99% of them were men - would cover the hills on the sides of the stadium.

Women were not allowed to participate as athletes or as spectators.

The professional photographer in full form!

Then on to the museum.  I like this shot as they are all immersed in the model of the Olympic village.  Olympia was only used once every four years.  No one lived there full time.

Natasha was very into these statues.  She led our guide, Ioannis from figure to figure.  I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to know what she was asking him about each figure.

Next was a quick stop at  Archimedes Museum in Olympia town. Most of it was replica's of machines with explanations of how they worked.  But a couple were hands on.

Natasha loved this one.

Then on to lunch at a seaside restaurant.  The views were fantastic - and you paid for it by the price of the food.  Easily the most expensive meal we had in Greece.

And lastly a visit to the old forest of the Centaurs.  We didn't see any!

And a couple of shots of the beauty that is Greece.
