January 18 Part 1 - Palacio Nacional

We saw two major sights today.  They deserve more attention so I will do this in two posts.  The first sight we headed to was the Palacio Nacional.  We were early and so wandered around some before waiting in line.

We are in the same area as yesterday, near the Metropolitan Cathedral.
We wander around the building we now houses the Palacio National.  We finally found an entrance and go through security.  Inside, we realize we are in the Muso Nacional de las Culturas.  Since we have a little time we start taking pictures.  Not sure who painted these murals.

In the Egyptian section.

A lot of sections in the museum were closed.  So out we go again.  We are still early, but we did locate the correct entrance to the Palacio National.  More photos as we wait.

Across the street shop keepers are literally building their shelves and stocking them.

Still waiting in line.

Finally we are able to get in.  There are gardens in the center square.

The main entrance

Sculpture in the square.

And finally we are inside.  We are here to see murals by Diego Rivera.  This series of paintings are called "The History of Mexico".  They wind around doors, staircases and arches.

In another section of the Palacio we found a room with painting exhibits and also a legislative chamber.  Sorry the photos are a little out of order.

This one is for you, Melissa of San Miguel de Allende.
