We took a day trip today - heading west from Havana. They have 3 or 4 National highways in Cuba - I don't remember what the designation was here - A-1,2 3 or 4. See below for proof that vintage cars exist outside of Havana.
Tobacco farming - I think. There is a lot of tobacco farming here. Also a lot of sugar cane plantations.
If you do tobacco farming here you have to do it the old way. No modern farm equipment is allowed. Hence, you see oxen and horses a lot. in the fields.
That is a tobacco drying shed.
If you blow this up you can see all the birds following the farmer and the oxen to catch the warms and grubs.
And now on to learning about tobacco farming. And still more vintage cars!
The farmer showing the tobacco seeds. They are so tiny a slight breeze can blow them away.
Then came the cigar rolling demonstration.
Mike happily holding a finished product.
The drying racks.
US products are not allowed here or maybe it is the trade embargo. Anyway - that is not really Coca cola below.
The Mural of Prehistory. This seemed kind of hooky. But it was presented as being designed by a famous painter who just happened to be so old he could not do the work himself so just supervised others doing the work. It has been painted over several times.
The end - mankind.
The dinosaurs.
A close up of the feet.
The beginning - the amoeba
I like this one the best.
We stopped for some views of the mountains. I like the old car against the hut and the mountains.
These mountains are very unusual as they are very "humpy"!
A wild orchid.
A church in a small town square.
the farmer looks quite bemused to have people watching him but I guess he is used to it
